Season 2: Episode 8 - Empowering Girls with Patrice Juah

How do we enable, encourage, and ally with young woman and girls as they share their stories their way? How do we support them in growing as visionary, socially conscious leaders who contribute to their community and the world?

This week on The Learning Future Podcast, Louka speaks with Patrice Juah, a poet, activist, and education entrepreneur working as the Martha Juah Educational Foundation executive director and its Sexy Like A Book initiative. They discuss decolonising educational systems, how learning should reflect the experiences of young people, the value of teachers as the backbone of society, and the hope that all young women and girls can be whom they want to be at every level of society.

Patrice Juah holds a Master’s Degree in International Relations, is a Mandela Washington Fellow, and a 2019 Deutsche Welle Global Media Fellow. She motivates and empowers young women by supporting local non-profit organisations to educate women on HIV/AIDs, teenage pregnancy, and education.

Patrice launched the first-ever Miss Education Awareness Pageant to inspire young girls to strive for higher education. She regularly contributes to the UNMIL radio show ‘Girl Power’ that promotes self-esteem, confidence, and the importance of leadership in local communities.
